Not Just Another New Year’s Eve

Monument Circle December 31st, 2020

Scott and I have never been “New Year’s Eve People”. I’ll usually watch the ball drop, but he couldn’t care less about that. Last year, we had a great time playing Settlers of Catan and attempting to make raspberry lemon drop martinis with our good friends. This year looked a little different. With days of social distancing among us, he planned a New Year’s Eve surprise that turned NYE into a more special day for both of us!

He told me he had a surprised planned and that we had two stops happening that evening. We got into the car and started driving towards Indianapolis. Because I had no idea what we were doing I thought for a second maybe the first stop was picking up my friend Erin H. because we were clearly heading downtown. However, as he drove by her exit, I knew that wasn’t happening. Haha!

When we arrived downtown, he parked the car and told me we were doing a “Christmas Light Medley” and that we were starting at the circle. We walked a short distance to Monument Circle and walked to the side with the stairs. There were a few people around and Scott kept saying he wanted to get a selfie up at the top and in the middle but he didn’t want other people around so that we could just get us in the picture. So, we took a lap around the circle and came back. There were still a few people there (not a ton which was why I didn’t understand why he didn’t realize we could get a selfie without anyone else in the picture hah).

The next thing I knew he was down on one knee and asking me the most important question I’ve ever been asked. His exact words were, “I know you love Christmas lights, but you’re the light in my life. Will you marry me?” I was always worried that when I got engaged that I would black and out and not remember what was said, but I will remember those words forever. Of course I started crying and immediately said YES!

After we took our selfies, he told me the next stop: State Fair Grounds. The State Fair Grounds had this amazing light display that you could drive through. It was HUGE and so neat! It took us about 30-40 minutes to drive through the whole thing. We just talked and enjoyed the rest of the night together.

When we were finished with the State Fair Grounds displayed, we order sushi from our favorite sushi restaurant in Fishers (Shout out to Asian Zing- aka Wild Ginger!) and walked around the downtown Fishers light display and took some more selfies. We had the place to ourselves which was very romantic, but chilly- especially because I took my gloves off because I couldn’t stop looking at my new bling! LOL

The ring is a family heirloom on Scott’s mother’s side. Scott’s mom has had it most recently but before that, his grandmother and before her, another relative. He had the diamond placed into a new setting and we are considering using the smaller diamonds from the first ring in my wedding band.

We know that wedding plan during this unprecedented time will look very different than it normally would. We are ready to get creative and plan the safest wedding possible while still including our closest friends and family!

Welcome!

Good Evening! Sadie here, writing to you from what I have termed, “The Zen Den”. Where my TV, wine fridge, scented candles, and of course a cozy couch reside. I have been thinking about blogging for about 4 days now. I’m sure others have thought about this long and hard, but the Sagittarius in me makes me act more quickly on things like this than most. When I get an idea, I just go for it! It’s a blessing and a curse. I also had the help and inspiration of my friend Allison who writes a very thought provoking and inspirational blog. Check it out and get inspiredย here! Another friend who has inspired me to blog is one of my best friends, Hillary. She has a blog that is bound to make you laugh. For guaranteed smiles clickย here! There’s also something about a snowy lawn, fuzzy socks, and the world’s best Costco blanket that made me want to blog with one of my favorite Christmas movies playing in the background!

Hopefully you are wondering what I will write about in my blog! Here you will find my daily shenanigans as a kindergarten teacher, yoga practices, hiking, cooking successes and failures, skincare raves and reviews along with plenty of masking. All of this will be included along with the ins and outs of daily life!

Would love for you to come along for this new journey I am embarking upon! If you have any tips or tricks to blogging, I would love to read them! Comment below!
